We had a terrific day at the 6th annual Play 4 Rex golf tournament at the Abilene Country Club. A record 58 teams played. A lot of friendships were made and renewed, a lot of good memories of our son, Rex were shared, a lot of golf (some good; some bad) and a lot of money was made.
Each year when we host this tournament, I’m reminded of the work given by our board members, volunteers and the great folks at the ACC. They all believe in the mission of the P4X Foundation – to be a beacon of hope to families dealing with pediatric cancer.
Our great friend and Pioneer Drive Baptist Church associate pastor, Jeff Reid, led us in a couple of thoughts and prayer before each round. His thoughts were both powerful and profound and set the right tone for the day. And the opening tee shots by 3-year-old Nathan Kehres and 5-year-old Izzy Zavala — both patients at the Hendrick Pediatric Rehab Center were one of the best parts of the day. Both of these kids will be future patients at the new facility to which P4X has pledged $250,000.
Jill and I want to say thank you to everyone involved in this day for believing in the P4X Foundation and standing with us each year to remember Rex. P4X serves to help those in a position no parent ever plans for or wants to find themselves when facing pediatric cancer.
We’ll announce the 2020 date later this summer and begin working on the seventh annual tournament later this fall.
